Statement of requirements
Introduction
Ventnor Angling & Social Club (VASC) seeks to promote the advancement of
the art of angling generally by holding competitions for its members
and open events for non-members.
Angling can be a dangerous sport therefore VASC has drawn up a list
of safety requirements for all full and temporary open members which
must be adhered to at all times.
Exclusion of Liability
VASC nor its Officers or Committee Members shall be liable for any
damage to property, loss, death or injury caused to or by any full
or temporary open member arising from their participation in any
competitions or events held by VASC.
Insurance
VASC recommend that all full and temporary open members shall insure
themselves against damage, loss, death or injury arising from the
sport of Angling including their participation in any competitions
held by the Club.
Hazards
The following is a non-exhaustive list of the hazards for full and
temporary open members to be aware of when fishing or choosing a
fishing location.

Weather conditions
·
Falling off or down a cliff face
·
Falling rocks / debris from cliffs
·
Slips, Trips on and from rocks
·
Tide movement
·
Being washed off the shore by heavy seas
·
Cold and hypothermia
·
Dehydration
·
Be aware of Injury caused by fish hooks, gaffs, knives, line and
other sharp objects
Hazards can cause injury, temporary or permanent disablement or even
death!
It is therefore a condition of membership for VASC that all members
and temporary open members fully comply with the Safety Requirements
set out below:-
Safety Requirements
General
VASC recommends that:

Members undergo First Aid training.
·
When shore fishing, use a suitable shock leader, 10lb line strength
equal to 1oz of lead weight
·
All juniors members and open non-members under 12 must be
accompanied by a parent or guardian
·
All members and open non-members under 16 should be accompanied by
an adult.
·
Let someone know where you are going and when you will return
·
Keep at least two rod lengths from others when casting from shore
·
Take extra care when casting from a boat
·
Carry a radio when fishing from a boat
·
Contact the competition secretary if not returning to the weigh in
when fishing from a boat
·
Notify the coast guard of your port, destination and return if
fishing from a boat
·
Do not stand too close to cliff edge
·
Members should be fully prepared for all eventualities when fishing
and
have access to:

Warm / Waterproof clothing
2.
Use a flotation suite or life jacket when boat fishing
3.
Fully charged mobile phone
4.
First Aid kit
5.
Torch
6.
Food & fluids
